The Prince of Wales Set to Attend UN Climate Conference in Brazil
Prince William will represent the COP30 climate summit in South America next month, as announced by the royal household.
The father and son duo made a joint appearance on Thursday evening at a event preceding the climate summit, which is scheduled to take place in the northern Brazilian city of Belém.
The royal pair were participating in the Natural History Museum reception, marking an rare public appearance together at a pre-COP30 gathering co-hosted by the British authorities.
Climate Leadership Dedication
The King has been a consistent supporter of environmental conservation - and the Prince of Wales has inherited the mission, with his own environmental prize initiative, which will be hosted in Rio before the COP summit.
Palace insiders have described the Prince's participation at the next COP as taking on an significant responsibility in "environmental negotiations".
Previous Activities
The monarch and his heir, arriving together in the state Bentley, were introduced to attendees such as conservation experts, scientists, climate change campaigners, foreign representatives and government officials.
This engagement featured addresses alongside President Emmanuel Macron of the French Republic and other international figures at the Blue Economy and Finance Forum in Monaco during the current year.
Earthshot Awards Connection
The COP30 summit will align with the William's personal Earthshot environmental awards, which will wrap up in Rio de Janeiro the previous day he participates in the COP summit on November 6th.
Last week the prince described the prize competitors as "contemporary champions".
Royal Climate Legacy
The King has been a key figure at past COP meetings, giving the opening address in Dubai for COP28, including the observation: "Our responsibility is to protect the world we inhabit".
"Throughout my life I've dedicated a large proportion of my life trying to alert people to the existential threats facing us over global warming, global temperature increases and biodiversity loss," the King told attendees.
